Another year is over. And it is time to compile the best of the Music that was featured on AI over the last twelve months. My output last year was low due to myriad personal reasons. But starting this year that might change for the better – I am going to be joined by a [...] | ‘the Buddies’ are an amalgam of two bands, Welcome to Ashley from Chicago and Pale Blue Dot out of Nashville. On AI we have covered Welcome to Ashley before and so when this opportunity came I was definitely very eager. I wasn’t disappointed! The band is made up of Coley Kennedy (Voice), Kim Collins (Drums, [...] | I cannot recall now how I stumbled upon Nilima’s website and the first strains of Nothing Left But Me stunned me with its beauty and grace but I am glad I did and then one thing led to another and I bought her entire EP. I also had the audacity to send her a fan [...] | ![Permalink to Playing For Change [UPDATE] Playing For Change](http://cache3.amabilisinsania.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Playing-For-Change-150x150.png) [UPDATE: Updated with a new cover of Bob Marley's Redemption Song. A few months back Enigma announced an interesting project in celebration of their 20th anniversary: The Social Song. The idea was to harness the power of the Social Web and create a song. Quoting from the website, “…it has been 20 years since Enigma’s first album was released… Up until now we have enjoyed our [...] | The year is over! For some of us, it just came and went – a member of a long list of other such candidates. For some of us it probably was an year of great import, a milestone in our lives in some way or the other. I am not one for grand new year [...] | Josh Woodward is an acoustic rock musician from Ohio, USA. He makes music and then he gives it all away for free and his reason for that is, in his own words, “because I want to”! All he asks from us is this, “if you enjoy it, please share it with your friends.” Now let [...] | Triplexity, the name, comes from triplex and complexity. And this is a band which is completely “a virtual band consisting of 3 members who have never met each other face to face”! The story of this band is the story of three Jamendo users – SaReGaMa who lives in Israel, Nikila who is a Belgian [...] |
This time it’s acoustic Pop/Folk from Geneva from a band called The Postmen. Laurent Zito(Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals) & Julien Henchoz(Guitar, Bass, Piano, Vocals) got together as a duo in late 2008 and was soon joined by Louise Meynard(Cello, Vocals) and the seeds of The Postmen were sown. Support [...] | The first time I heard this song was the Beck version featured on the soundtrack of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I fell in love at first listen. Its an incredibly beautiful song. Looking for something to post tonight, I remembered this one and on searching a bit I found out that this [...] |
So I am like over a month late to celebrate International Women’s Day! Nevertheless in this my tribute to women, I feature songs from women with guitars (well mostly!). I have been listening to and sifting through the thousands of songs that are featured for free for this year’s SXSW. And these are the first [...] | The music of The Cotton Jones Basket Ride is described somewhere as bluesy psychedelic folk – a heavy label for what is essentially great music! It reminded me of The Grateful Dead a bit, but to give this band its due, their sound is their own. In the end, its just some beautiful tunes and [...] | What started me off on this very popular, oft-covered hit is a new version recorded by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and an Iranian superstar Andy Madadian to express solidarity with the people of Iran. As one of the producers, Don Was, states here, This version of the old Ben E. King classic is not [...] | Delightful, easy-listening, largely acoustic Pop with sufficiently good lyrics, this artist needs exposure more than many of the big names out there. Sean Fournier writes and records his songs alone. He also does the artwork, the web design, the promotion etc. “It has morphed from a serious hobby to a second job! It’s about 30% [...] |
Bob Dylan… ah, what can you say about him? All words seem inadequate to match the power of his words, all songs of praise fall short in front of the melodies he wrote. It is amazing to write songs that reaches out and touches a whole generation, but to write music that talks to generations, [...] |
