The Great Indian Rock III

The Great Indian Rock III

For everyone out there who has been waiting for this, the wait is over! And my sincere apologies for making you guys wait. But recording from old cassette tapes to digital format, then editing each track to make them sound as best as possible and then finally converting to mp3s is a time-consuming process. So do forgive me and hope you enjoy the music! (For people wondering what is The Great Indian Rock, please check this and this out. Thanks again to Rohan, a reader of Amabilis Insania who got in touch with me and very graciously offered some of his old tapes so that I may convert them to mp3s and release them here.) [UPDATE: Other GIRs: Vol. I,

Millennium

Millennium - Millennium

It’s heavy metal! It’s Millennium! If you have ever been fans of this heavy metal band from the Silicon Valley of India, Millennium will need no introducing. But for the rest of us, they are probably the heaviest band that ever came out of India. Having opened for the likes of Deep Purple and Megadeth and having the distinction of being the first Asian metal band whose video entered the MTV playlist, they are legends and pioneers. The self-titled album featured below was their first full-length album and just overflows with class and virtuosity. If you love metal, you will love this. If you don’t, at least check out ‘Forest Dreams’, the only ballad on this album! [ A reader

Iron Maiden – El Dorado

Iron Maiden - El Dorado

Iron Maiden released their 15th studio album last month, The Final Frontier, which has sailed to the top of the charts straight away. As most clever bands do in this digital age, they have released their first single, El Dorado, online for free download. There is nothing much to review about an Iron Maiden track, because there are only two kinds of people in this world – people who love Maiden and people who don’t! I belong to the former category and this track is vintage Maiden. Enough said! As part of the album promotion, there’s a game as well as a video. (I can’t embed the video here since embedding is disabled.) The video is of the title track

Indiean

Indiean Vol 1

India may be well known for Bollywood and the music that is such an integral part of it but the ubiquity of Bollywood some times obscures the other genres of music that comes out of that billion-strong nation. Indian Rock MP3.com is a great website that serves to highlight rock music that is made by hundreds of struggling bands from all parts of the country. It is not only an important resource for Indians interested in the indie rock ‘scene’ in India but also for people on the lookout for new rock music. The dedicated team behind this website has done a wonderful thing – they have come out with a compilation album featuring some of the best indie rock

Magdalen Graal

Magdalen Graal - Magdalen Graal

If you like Evanescence, you are going to like Magdalen Graal. The voice of this U.K. lady and the music of her band reminds you of Amy Lee’s vocals and Evanescence’s music almost instantly. But, to be fair, their music is their own. And Magdalen does have an amazing range and power, in her voice. Magdalen Graal was born in Rome to an English mother and she writes all the lyrics to the band’s songs. The music is mostly from the guitarist Vega. The other members of the band are Zetar, Virgo and Drako. Here are a couple of interviews with her to help you get to know her better. I present the eponymous album from this talented band. Its
