Millennium

It’s heavy metal! It’s Millennium!

If you have ever been fans of this heavy metal band from the Silicon Valley of India, Millennium will need no introducing. But for the rest of us, they are probably the heaviest band that ever came out of India. Having opened for the likes of Deep Purple and Megadeth and having the distinction of being the first Asian metal band whose video entered the MTV playlist, they are legends and pioneers. The self-titled album featured below was their first full-length album and just overflows with class and virtuosity. If you love metal, you will love this. If you don’t, at least check out ‘Forest Dreams’, the only ballad on this album!

[ A reader of Amabilis Insania got in touch with me and very graciously offered some of his old, very rare tapes that were lying around gathering dust and mould, in order that I may convert them to mp3s and release them here. After a few phone calls and emails over a few weeks, the tapes were 'air-lifted' out of the country and brought to my desk, where they lay for a few more weeks! In the end they were converted, tweaked and made ready for the digital age! The first instalment of the results are below. They are not great - the tapes were old, my skills are limited! But it's something, which is, last I checked, better than nothing! ;) And to show gratitude where it's due, thanks a ton Rohan! :) ]

Millennium - Millennium
Millennium – Only Be One

Millennium – Twist of Fate

Millennium – Grey

Millennium – FYA

Millennium – Final Sign

Millennium – Metal Army

Millennium – Forest Dreams

Millennium – Peace Just in Heaven

Millennium – Child of Pain

Millennium – Feather

To make it sweeter for all Millennium fans, pains were taken to scan and convert the entire liner notes of the album so that you may have the pleasure of finding out more about the tracks and their lyrics. The converted document is here and the original scan follows below.

      Thanks Prashant! :)
Woman was one of my favourite ballads too. And glad you found the sound on this Millennium better. It’s a painstaking process of converting from tape – so really love the appreciation!
GIR III will come very soon and the rest are also in line. Though some of the credit goes to one of AI’s readers (Rohan) for kindly sending me some of his old tapes for me to convert. It’s all about community man!

  • Ritesh

Thanks for this.Listening to "Forest Dreams" right now…reminds me when I saw Millennium play live in this ancient pub "Churchstreet" many many years ago.Fortunately I still have the tape at my mom's place safely stored but then with the digital age,its only the tapes that have become a treasure.I also have 1 concept 2 live on tape.{Rainmaker is an amzing song too}Need help if I can d/w and transfer it to my ipod.

    • Amabilis Insania

You are welcome mate! Well, my mom was not that kind and sold off all my tapes as scrap! Thankfully I had kept some rarest of the rare with me personally and was also helped by a reader/friend (Rohan) who sent in some of his tapes.

Actually, I am half done converting 1 Concept 2 Live – the more difficult and time-consuming step remains! Hope to do it soon… Btw, what's d/w? I seriously have no idea – googled it, but still no luck… :P
