The year is over! For some of us, it just came and went – a member of a long list of other such candidates. For some of us it probably was an year of great import, a milestone in our lives in some way or the other. I am not one for grand new year celebrations, or even resolutions for that matter. Aceh was in the news for being the worst hit in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. It also happens to be the place where Islam first gained a foothold in South-East Asia. And Aceh remains till this day the strongest bastion of Islam in that region. Much of their culture, probably as a consequence, is closely linked to the Arab world – and this applies to their music as well. The other category you will find here is 'rarities' – music that was once commercially available but is not sold any more. Copyrighted music, if covered, is not available for download.
