Best of 2011

2011

Another year is over. And it is time to compile the best of the Music that was featured on AI over the last twelve months. My output last year was low due to myriad personal reasons. But starting this year that might change for the better – I am going to be joined by a co-writer soon for AI! But more about him later, in another post. So, as I was saying, due to my lower output I had a smaller pool to choose from this year. But I hope I could do justice and this compilation will appeal to some of us. All of us won’t be happy of course. To quote from last year, “Music tastes are as

The Great Indian Rock V

Various - The Great Indian Rock V

We have earlier featured the first 4 volumes of The Great Indian Rock – the annual compilation of the best of the underground Rock scene in India. GIR IV was released in 2000, the fourth in this series of yearly compilations of tracks from Indian rock musicians. But it still sounds surprisingly fresh and there are undoubtedly some gems in there. By this time the phenomenon of GIR had grown – yearly concerts started happening, featuring the bands/artist who made it into the album. The popularity spread, especially amongst the college crowd and this drew in some big-name sponsors. But the essence of the whole thing remained the same – giving the best of the underground rock scene in India a voice, a platform to showcase their talent. Enjoy! [Other GIRs: Vol. I, Vol. II, Vol. III, Vol. V] Mrigya – Ganga Arth – Hai Macha Killer

The Great Indian Rock III

The Great Indian Rock III

For everyone out there who has been waiting for this, the wait is over! And my sincere apologies for making you guys wait. So do forgive me and hope you enjoy the music! (For people wondering what is The Great Indian Rock, please check this and this out. Thanks again to Rohan, a reader of Amabilis Insania who got in touch with me and very graciously offered some of his old tapes so that I may convert them to mp3s and release them here.) [UPDATE: Other GIRs: Vol. I,
